The Uber leak - ethics, politics and influence
Blimey. Uber has had a massive information leak. A bundle (and we mean, a bundle) of documents have been uncovered - 124,000 of them

They show how the ride-share leader courted global figures, bureaucrats, goverments and more - and also reveals how they prepped a 'kill-switch' to shut down computer systems quickly and prevent anyone unauthorised from gaining access to their data (i.e. anyone investigating the company) There is some choice people, ethics and influence at play here - going right to the top

The Irish housing bubble and crash - reasons and stats
The Purpose has Irish family roots, so this report from @WorksInProgMag is fascinating.
Covering the boom and bust of the Celtic Tiger, the myth of ghost towns - and uncovering tightly-held misconceptions of developer greed, make this a tale worth telling
Hint: it's diffiuclt to get everyone to agree what went wrong, when it does. And even Apple's very own Jobs-esque 'the dots only join up when looking back' doesn't guarantee the same mistakes won't get made again (and again)

Free tools: Figma templates for non-profits
You probably know Figma, If you don't, it's a tool that's taken over the mantle of 'defacto web design tool' - it's a bit like if PhotoShop decided to start again from scratch and built a light and easy to use suite of design tools (ooh, somone's not an Adobe fan, eh?)
Putting together creative stuff is a cinch, even handier, there's a raft of reasonable templates available to orgs - have a look at this free one - it's a good starting point for your next redesign

Look sharp when you get asked about the metaverse/crypto/NFTs in your next meeting
Metaverse Ok, so this is one of the biggies. The Metaverse name usually gets attributed to Author Neal Stephensen in his 1992 novel, Snow Crash (though you could argue it was foreshadowed by William Gibsons Neuromancer back in 1984)

In straightforward terms, the Metaverse could be imagined as a 3D version of The Internet. Some examples today could be seen as Roblox, Minecraft or even Fortnite - though none of these worlds are connected, as they stand alone with different rules, developent engines and so on - so they aren't really aligned with the commonly held concept of the metaverse being open and available to everyone.
If Web 1.0 (Netscape, AOL et al) was all html pages with no data or dynamic ability, web 2.0 was all about social media giants (FB, Twitter, Insta, TikTok), The Metaverse is looking at a mash up of AR/VR/Online spaces that combine a number of technologies and ideas.
The Metaverse isn't going anywhere - and could have the capacity to disrupt internal comms, donations and funding, live events and even messaging and day-to-day online interactions.
