The Friday Optimist

We love a bit of optimism of a Friday (long as it's before 4 pm, cos, weekend and that) This regular email from Internet up-and-comer Pack McCormack is a great read

His regular not boring email is also well worth a spin - the long reads are proper in-depth and cover off all sorts of interesting brand, tech and business topics. Meanwhile, from Today's weekly dose of optimism

The Charts that show we're (mainly) living better than our mums and dads

A Tweet that made us laugh

The ire is palpable on this one. Tempted to send a non-form PDF now.

Weird Internet thing of the day

You'll have heard of AI, but perhaps not this completely frivolous use of the new Artificial intelligence model DALL.E. Complely useless and highly addictive, be warned, you can lose hours here. Send us your best helloatpurposycom

Web 3.0 dictionary 101 for non-techies: NFTs

Look sharp when you get asked about the metaverse/crypto/web3 in your next meeting

NFT: You've probably heard this one bandied around quite a bit. NFT stands for Non-Fungible Token (catchy, no?) It's basically a certificate or proof that you own a digital item. This can be an original , or one in series of an image, video, tweet, song, anything really.

A lot of the hype with NFTs has been based around digital art, which last year spiralled into some very chunky sums being laid out See this for an example.

Things have cooled off significantly in last few months however, though the underlying blockchain technology has a some interesting use cases for purpose orgs - from donation to collections.

NFTs have become quite the status symbol, with digital assets such as Bored Apes and CryptoPunks creating strong communities, launches and product roadmaps around their assets. Have you considered how this might be useful for your org? you could;

  • Create an NFT collection for super donors

  • Create a token which can be used to get access to events

  • Auction off tweets, video or other content

  • Do a brand extension partnership

Other views / things you can mention in polite conversation

  • Why the hell would you spend 1 million on a clipart rock? Someone did

  • You are NGMI (not gonna make it) fren (friend)

  • HODL (hold on) for dear life, diamond hands (I'm ignoring the current crash and will look very smart when it rebounds)

  • I'm Buy the dip (NFTs are cheap right now, so I'm getting bag) this is not financial advice btw :)
