Free charity guide to net-zero
"80% of charities do not have a net zero objective, and even fewer report on their carbon emissions. It’s vital that the charity sector does all it can to not only work towards net zero, but lead the way in avoiding dangerous climate change" says Richard Sager of Charity Finance Group who've published a free online guide to help charities keen to reduce their carbon emissions.

It's a straightforward and useful guide then, that covers all the basics and into details on the what, how and why;
Building a net zero strategy
Understanding energy consumption
Becoming carbon neutral verified
Net zero and procurement
Scope 3 emissions and how to account for them

Interesting impact people to get to know
Lorenzo Raffio

Tell us a bit about yourself and what you do? I lead on Digital Development and Monitoring and Evaluation at Generation Global, an education programme part of the Tony Blair Institute. I have the privilege of working on building fun learning experiences for young people and educators around the world, and measuring the impact of our work.
What organisation do you work for? Generation Global is a global citizenship education programme designed to enable young people to embrace the future, equipped with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to become active and open-minded global citizens.
What’s your current biggest issue? While more people than ever today identify as global citizens, intolerance and conflict, often based on cultural prejudices and identity-based political divisions, contribute to shape the current turbulent international landscape. An education that fosters open-mindedness is needed to support a generation of young people who can thrive in a diverse and interconnected world.
How are you solving it? We believe intercultural dialogue is at the heart of meaningful human connections and young people’s ability to authentically engage as global citizens. This is why we have built a free gamified learning platform (the Ultimate Dialogue Adventure) where young people can learn the skills of dialogue through interactive topics and put them in practice by participating in our Dialogue Spaces and Video Conferences with peers from around the world.
Tell us something no-one else knows about you or your organisation? We have organised video conferences between young people in conflict and post-conflict areas, and worked with refugee organisations. Equity and inclusivity are our core values and we strive to provide just and fair access for all young people to participate.
What’s your spirit animal and why? When I was young and in the Scouts, my totem animal was a seahorse, and I think this still applies today.

To bot, or not to bot - that is the question
Chatbots. Love 'em or hate 'em, they're here to stay. You know the ones, bottom right of your favourite website. Awaiting your lightest of mouse/click-over caresses, where they'll proceed to spring from the wings to interrupt your browsing journey like a 21st-century tech-savvy Clippy. Well, some of them anyway.
Tbf, we're big into AI at Purpose Towers. all that lovely data and user feedback where you get the actual questions users want to know the answer to, to respond to or put into your CRM.

Like most things, it really comes down to execution. Get it wrong and it's like Skynet has got its algorithms spliced with a murder of digitally annoying minions (likely called Kevin). Get it right and user satisfaction is way higher, people get routed to their digital destinations more effectively and you find out a load about what visitors want.
So what makes a good conversational AI experience? here are a few thoughts from our pals at Synthetic.
Keep chatbots domain-specific, General AI doesn't exist - and won't for many years. Focus on answering core questions about your organisation's service or product
Make it obvious to the user if it's a bot they're talking to. It might sound obvious, but you don't want the old 'hello, are you there, Simon?'
You can make it more human, but keep the humour appropriate to your key users
User lead scoring to segment users to the right place - chatbots can have mutliple 'happy paths' for all your personas
Train your bot with enough data in the first place to make it useful. (Your friends here are call centre scripts, customer NPS scores, bad reviews, HR)
Start simple with an MVP - you can knock up an FAQ bot really quickly to test usage and data
Expect that people will say rude things, it happens. A lot.
And for the love of all things artificial, don't do this
