Rebranding - Lessons learnt from 6 months Asthma + Lung UK

Rebranding is the bane of business life. Should we? shouldn't we? will it alienate our existing users? uncover new commercial opportunities? isn't it just a logo anyway? arrghhhhhhhhhh. Luckily we have a breakdown from the Asthma + Lung UK rebrand, from CEO Sarah Woolnaugh earlier this year, over on Civil Society. Thank bejaysus for that.

Highlights

Brading ain't just a logo, oh no. Consider all of your assets - including how you can standardise communication, tone, and what you stand for - to attract the right talent, increase funding, and stand out in a competitive market.

Play the long game by embracing the changing landscape since Covid and keep the momentum up by planning different engagement events, strategies and opportunities - underpinned by a new visual brand that offers the chance to reach more people

We have been focused on continuing to bring people, especially supporters and beneficiaries, along on the journey of our new brand, including offering reassurance that we support people with all lung conditions, not just asthma

Circular economy, twitter-style

Twitter, that Billionaire-baiting bastion of social media just rolled out an interesting update called Circles. Basically accounts now have the ability to tweet out to smaller groups of individuals - up to 150 - rather than all of their followers at once. Why might that be useful you ask? Well sometimes on your personal or organisational account you may want to share something with funders, donors, as part of a campaign with partner businesses and so on.

There might also be information you'd want to share that is exclusive for super-donors or fundraisers - giving them a closer connection to you and your aims and initiatives. The rollout of Circles should be available to all Twitter users shortly. It's potentially another useful tool for social engagement and worth giving a spin - spin! no? (Jesus, your puns are getting worse - ed)

Some ideas

  • Set up a circle for your biggest or most recent donators - give them first dibs on new initiatives, special events or access to rewards

  • Discounts on any merchandise you may be selling

  • Getting user feedback for segmnts of yoru social media audience

  • Testing new products or services with your most engaged followers

  • Encourage new followers over a time period to sign up for emails or other campaigns

A timely reminder that actually, no one is looking, and you might as well follow your own rule book.

Look smart when you get asked about the metaverse/crypto/NFTs in your next board meeting. We're on a mission to skill you up. WAGMI! ( if you don't know what that means, You're in the right place!)

DeFi (Decentralized Finance)- This is the overarching ecosystem of financial tools that are built on public blockchains - where banks (as we know them) are bypassed. Defi generally means it's not bound by current transactional rules and as such, is borderless, trustless and peer-to-peer.

DeFi apps are being built in an open source way and are, in theory at least, interconnected with each other and not dependent on banking checks - and the middleman fees you currently get charged for.

Of course, this doesn't mean it's foolproof, and we wouldn't recommend sticking your organisation's yearly funds into DeFi apps just yet. DYOR!
