Reflection On The Passing Of A Monarch In The Social Media Era
When Queen Victoria passed away on January 22, 1901, few of her subjects could likely remember a time before she came to the throne. Her reign, which lasted almost 64 years, then the longest in British history, saw the world transformed.

In the passing century, momentus transformation across the world has continued apace (and then some). Along with it, how we communicate get brought into sharp relief.
Although the government - and the Royal Family - have been preparing for this moment for years, anticipating how the news could be quickly announced via TV and radio. What wasn’t likely expected, until relatively recently at least, was how the Internet and social media could also change how word of the queen's passing could be shared.
How the queen embraced technology over the years.
From broadcasting her coronation on TV to sending her first Instagram post. Although the monarchy is known for following tradition, the Queen has embraced technology throughout her reign. These are times that Queen Elizabeth has used technology and changed the way the palace worked with the Internet and broadcast media.
