The Purpose issue # 21๐ฅ
Welcome to our new readers this week. We've turned 21 (issues!) of bitesize ideas, trends and weird digital stuff for purpose-driven reprobates people and organisations. Zoikes.
And we're off, like a hosepipe ๐
In this issue
๐๏ธ Nothing to see on TikTok, nothing at all
๐ Wake up Maggie
๐ก Ideas to steal
๐ Tweet of the day
๐ Web 3.0 dictionary series to make you smarter
๐ฐ Jobs-a-go-go
Inflation good. For some.
So inflation is bad no? well yes. But for some there's silver in them gathering storms. Toy transporting, fine wine, drilling for oil, trading wheat are all showing bumper profits (whilst, obviously some people are struggling to stay warm and eat) so who's gaining and why?

Energy (no sh*t Sherlock etc) Extracting fossil fuels is big business - BP did over 6 billion April-Jun, whilst Centrica profits rose five times. A 25% windfrall tax should counter some of that back into the helping households with bills, but we'll see.
Mining. Wake up Maggie (actually don't ta) With Coal going gangbusters unexpectedly, mining companies getting dirty are raking it in. Glencore.
Food commodity trading The ABCD's (the most prominent food traders) are coining it in. When there's global disruption, opportunies for middlemen abound. Reminds us of Layercake though
Shipping Rates for freight went through the roof since Covid, backlogs at ports have meant demand has increased manyfold. Whilst sitting on a half a trillion in profit, the container-shipping industry noted that 'rates won't normalise until at least a year' course they did.
Luxury watches and fine wine. People with cash on hand (there are some) are putting it into less conventional areas - such is the low return on stocks, shares and the like. Watches and wine are up anywhere from 15%-20% betting they would outpace inflation - hmm, only just based on where we could end up.
Tik Tok Not (capturing your data, not at all)
How do you feel about big tech monitoring what youโre typing into your mobile phone?

Well, TikTok has implemented code that does just that. If you open a browser from within the app they can track all your keystrokes. TikTok claimed it was just for debugging purposes, then refused to comment any further
Note: Theyโve also spent $2.1m lobbying the US government in the second quarter of 2022โฆagainst online privacy bills among other things. The largest amount theyโve spent in any quarter on lobbying.
An example of a morally corrupt corporation trying to pull the wool over customers' eyes or just some standard tech maintenance?
FFS, it's obvious what's going on here Sure, could be.
Idea of the day for orgs
Create a charity/collab NFT collection using DALLE for free. Upload to Opensea, set auction time, mint. Convert to FIAT. Win. Example below series called "Working for Coin"

Why not?
Tweet of the day
Now this is how you plan, also a handy World Cup Final reminder

Web 3.0 dictionary 101 for non-techies(i.e me and you)
Look sharp when you get asked about the metaverse/crypto/NFTs in your next board meeting. We're on a mission to skill you up. WAGMI! ( if you don't know what that means, You're in the right place!)
Miners (not the coal type) - This is a term for people using the fatest computer they can, to mine (bascially to create) cryptocurrencies such at Bitcoin or Ethereum. It's a competitive process that verifies and adds new transactions to the blockchain using proof-of-work (PoW)

The miner that wins the competition is rewarded an amount of the currency and/or transaction fees.
The holy grail of crypto mining is low-cost electricity (good luck with that) as the cost of the computer power necessary is often high - as is the carbon footprint and emissions from that power.
How to use: Tarquin, stop using the avacado toast maker, I'm trying to mine some ETH here
Note: the above image was created as idea above, by AI using a text prompt "two small people with pickaxes standing on a bitcoin, mining cryptocurrency" Witchcraft
Quick takes, interesting stuff
